Board of Managers

The Reitz Union Board of Managers is one of two University-wide standing committees chaired by a student, with a voting student majority. This presidentially appointed committee is comprised of twelve student members and six faculty members. The appointment term for student members is one or two years, beginning in August of each year. Faculty members serve a three year term.

The Reitz Union Board of Managers oversees policies pertaining to facility usage and programming, develops long range plans for development and renovation of facilities, implements sustainability initiatives, reviews marketing and promotion functions, oversees financial policies, operating budgets, and facility use rates, and allocates student organization office, cubicle, and storage space.

There are four subcommittees of the Board:

  • Facilities Committee
    The Facilities Committee considers potential structural expansion, building improvements, services within the facility, future activities, long range plans, and sustainability initiatives, for the Reitz Union and reviews all applications for student organization office, cubicle, and storage space and makes annual recommendations to the Board concerning its allocation.
  • Marketing Committee
    The Marketing Committee is responsible for reviewing the marketing and promotion functions of the Reitz Union. The Chairperson of the Marketing Committee also serves on the campus-wide Food Service Advisory Board.
  • Finance Committee
    The Finance Committee reviews the Reitz Union’s financial policies, financial operations, annual operating budgets, monthly income and expense summaries, and basic rates charged by the Reitz Union for use of its facilities.
  • Policy and Programs Committee
    The Policy and Programs Committee considers, reviews, and recommends policies pertaining to Reitz Union programming and facility usage and reviews the operating procedures of the Board of Managers.

Applications for the Board of Managers are available each March at the Reitz Union Information Desk, Student Activities Center (3rd Floor JWRU), and the Student Services Information Desk. Notices regarding applications are published in the Independent Florida Alligator and University Digest. A Selection Committee, composed of three students and two faculty members interviews applicants and recommends sixteen names to the Student Body President. The Student Body President selects the twelve student Board members and forwards his/her recommendations to the President of the University through the Vice President for Student Affairs.
