Purpose: The Alternative Student Housing Association is a peer based group where University of Florida students show different housing options to the student body, with the focus on inexpensive and free local housing. College dormitories and off-campus apartments can be expensive, costing thousands of dollars a year. Without loans and financial aid, some students cannot afford these housing options. It is the goal of ASHA to benefit the student body through presenting low cost and free housing options so that all students can be afforded the opportunity to attend the University of Florida.
Activities: In order to fulfill the purpose of ASHA, there will be monthly meetings that will plan publicity events for local housing organizations that provide free or low cost residence. There will also be socials, formals, and educational programming on topics such as scholarships, budgeting, and cooking for members and all students at the University of Florida. The previously listed activities are a sample of what ASHA seeks to do for the University of Florida's student population.
