Categories: Medicine
Purpose: The American Medical Student Association is committed to improving health care and healthcare delivery to all people; promoting active improvement in medical education; involving its members in the social, moral and ethical obligations of the profession of medicine; assisting in the improvement and understanding of world health problems; contributing to the welfare of medical students, interns, residents and post-MD/DO trainees; and advancing the profession of medicine.
Activities: Promote patient advocacy and awareness of issues facing the modern-day medical student via lecture presentations given during lunch hours, attendance of conferences to meet with like-minded individuals, and service to give back to the community. So far this year, we have had a National Primary Care Week Lecture Series consisting of 8 lectures, a lecture on the growing epidemic of pediatric obesity, a lecture on the pharmaceutical companies' influences on the healthcare system and the prescribing practices of physicians, and an AMSA t-shirt drive to fund a toy drive for impoverished Alachua county families.
