Introduction To The J. Wayne Reitz Union
About the Union
The J. Wayne Reitz Union supports the Division of Student Affairs mission as part of the University of Florida's educational environment
by providing quality programs to educate, entertain, and intellectually, socially and creatively develop members of the larger University
community through involvement or participation. This is achieved through the staff and resources of the following units:
Center for Student Activities and Involvement is responsible for registering and supporting student organizations,
which includes: reviewing constitutions, approving faculty advisors, providing training and support for officers
and faculty advisors, maintaining the student organization database and managing the Student Organization Resource Center.
The CSAI is also responsible for promoting involvement opportunities at UF and is the office to visit to learn more about how to get involved.
Office of Student Activities includes Gator Nights!, the Reitz Union Board, College Bowl and the Arts & Crafts Center,
as well as providing program planning permits and resources for all student organization events held on campus. OSA Staff advise many
major student organization events held on campus and assist all student organizations with event planning and negotiating contracts for
performers and speakers. JWRU Tech Support is also found in the OSA.
Office of Sorority and Fraternity Affairs directly advises the four governing Greek councils (Interfraternity
Council, Multicultural Greek Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, and Panhellenic Council). In addition, the office supports the sixty
social sororities and fraternities and their almost 5,000 student members (15% of the undergraduate student population). Thirty-eight of the
organizations own a chapter facility, and over 1,400 students reside in those structures. The office accomplishes its objectives of promoting
and creating environments that advance the fraternal tenants of scholarship, service, leadership, and community through programs and services
targeted at a variety of constituents: chapter leadership, chapter advisors, faculty/staff advisors, house directors, and house corporations, and parents.
