Open Positions

Arts and Crafts Center

Arts & Craft Center assistant

The Studio Assistant is a key support staff member within the Arts & Crafts Center, located in the basement of the Reitz Union. Studio Assistants provide support to artisans in the instruction of non-credit courses and informal instruction to walk in patrons. Arts activities include ceramics, painting of pre-formed pottery, stained glass, silk screen printing, silver jewelry fabrication, beading drawing and painting and more. Studio tasks are varied and include assisting patrons with arts and crafts projects, selling merchandise, creating art samples, assisting with art activities during special events and demonstrations and the organization and light cleaning of the workspace and equipment. You will learn to mix glazes, operate a cash register, assist customers with craft projects, sell jewelry and art supplies, create art samples and window displays, assist with publicity and promotion of events, answer the phone and provide support to the art instructors. Students may also assist with art activities during the Gator Nights late night program. Shifts worked are primarily during the normal hours of operation: Monday thru Thursday 1:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., Friday 1:00 pm - 8:30 p.m. and Saturday noon until 5:00 p.m. Closed on home football Saturdays.

Game Room

Student Assistant

This position is for Spring 2010. Please put your Spring 2010 Class Schedule on the application! Interviews will be Nov 30 - Dec 4. Any staff hired will start training in December 2009.

The primary function of the Game Room Associate is to assist customers in the Game Room, operate the front counter, and to preserve security in the Game Room. This position reports to the Game Room Assistant Manager, the Game Room Manger and the General Manager.

It is the goal of all Game Room employees to make the Game Room a pleasant, stress free location for the University community to spend their leisure time. It is also the goal of all employees to ensure that the Game Room accurately collect all monies for the services it offers to ensure that the Game Room and Arcade can operate on the University of Florida campus.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Associate’s Duties and tasks include but are not limited to:
• clocking the customer in and out on the automatic scoring system, operating the register, money handling, and overseeing customers during business hours.
• assist customers with maximum competence and customer service skills at all times. This requires knowledge of the position and procedures, and the knowledge of the Union and what it offers.
• patrol the Game Room looking for prohibited activity, such as, but not limited to; gambling, sitting on pool tables, setting beverages and food on pool tables and video games.
• patrol Game Room to pick up trash and straighten area as needed. Return all equipment to the proper racks when equipment is not in use.
• check video game doors to ensure the games have not been broken into.
• clean and straighten counter area, restock forms, sharpen pencils, answer phones and direct calls when not busy with customers.
• fix bowling equipment
• report any equipment failures to the Manager on duty
• bring any problems that develop to the attention of the Assistant Manager, Manager or the Game Room General Manager.
• Attend meetings, training sessions, and orientations as needed and required

IT Services

Web Programming Assistant

This position requires programming experience in ASP.NET (C# preferred), Microsoft SQL and basic XHTML/CSS for developing robust web applications; experience in Classic ASP is preferred, but not required. If you have any other programming languages that you have experience developing in, please list them.
Our web site has many types of interactive pages in addition to our informative pages. Web development is done using a team approach through which you will interact with other individuals having graphical and programming talents. Students are given diverse real world learning experiences in which they can develop their technical abilities as well as business and customer service skills.

University Box Office

Student Assistant

Student assistants work in a customer service environment handling all aspects of sales to ticketed events on campus and throughout Florida on the Ticketmaster system. Duties include selling tickets, providing information(in person and on the phone), handling monetary transactions(cash and credit cards). Most duties take place in the University Box Office located in the lobby of the Constans Theatre (adjacent to the Reitz Union). Some duties will take place at various venues on the University of Florida campus.
Work schedules are part time, but are a definitive part of a weekly schedule. Work times for events may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Now accepting applications for Spring 2010 semester.

Graduate Assistant - Assessment

The Graduate Assistant provides assistance in the development and implementation of an integrated assessment plan for the J. Wayne Reitz Union for programs and services currently provided; conducts analysis using SPSS or SAS; develops and implements an annual report with assessment data. The Graduate Assistant will serve on the J. Wayne Reitz Union Assessment Committee; serve on University committees as requested. A bachelor�s degree in statistics, math, education, or a related field is preferred; currently enrolled in a graduate program in Research and Evaluation Methodology, Statistics, Educational Administration & Policy or a related field; proficiency with Microsoft Office; proficiency with SPSS or SAS; demonstrated communication, organizational and leadership skills; commitment to customer service and effective interpersonal communication skill.

Arts and Crafts Center

Art Gallery Intern

The art gallery intern coordinates exhibits in the Reitz Union's art gallery. Is responsible for the design of promotional materials, coordinating and hosting the receptions, writing and submitting press releases, conducting a call to artist for upcoming semester. Hours are flexible and may vary from 9-15 hours per week.

Gallery Director

The student gallery director coordinates all aspects of exhibits held in the Reitz Union gallery. The gallery director will coordinate the entire exhibition process. Duties include: advertise a Call to Artists to exhibit, coordinate the art committee to review applications, schedule exhibitions, review terms of agreement with artists, prepare insurance lists, advise exhibitors with the installation of work, coordinate and host the art receptions, write and place press releases and design promotional materials. Strong organizational skills required. Previous Mac and Photoshop graphics experience desired. Hours to be arranged, and vary from 10-15 hours per week.


Student Manager

The student manager is a para-professional position of the Arts & Crafts Center staff. The student manager assists with the interview and hiring process, coordinates work schedules, and plays an active role in the training of student employees. The student manager also serves as a liaison between the student employees and the professional staff of the Arts & Crafts Center. The student manager acts as the manager for the Arts and Crafts Center and The Studio in the absence of the professional staff. The student manager assists with late night program planning and special events, ordering merchandise and the daily operation of two art facilities. The Student Manager will assist in the research and creation of new activities for special events. The work schedule of the student manager is 20 hours per week and may include evening and Saturday afternoon shifts.

The student manager reports directly to the assistant director of the Arts & Crafts Center and receives guidance through regularly scheduled meetings and electronic communications. The student manager advises and councils student employees in performance expectations and provides feedback through employee evaluations.

The student manager is required to have prior cash handling experience. The student manager will be trained to operate a point of sale cash register and is required to become proficient in its use. The student manger will also be trained to reconcile daily deposits, prepare related reports and to operate a variety of tools and equipment in the arts studios. The applicant is expected to gain a general knowledge of the department’s Procedures Manual and is required to familiarize the student staff with it.

The applicant should possess a general knowledge and interest in arts and crafts and have a strong interest in developing leadership and management skills. It is helpful for the applicant to have some experience in ceramics processes, and/or silk screening. The applicant must be self motivated and able to work a flexible schedule. The student manager is also expected to serve as a role model to the student staff, providing excellent customer service and handle all service challenges with courtesy and good judgment.

AV Services

AV Assistants

These positions provide a wide variety of AV services to Reitz Union customers, from 7a to Midnight, seven days a week. No prior AV experience is necessary to apply, training will be provided. Now accepting applications to be considered for possible Fall 2009 employment.

Campus Copy Fax & Pack

Assistant Manager

The primary function of the Manager is to act as manager in the absence of the Campus Copy Fax & Pack General Manager. The Manager supervises the Associates keeping the center operating at peak function and maintains proper cash handling procedures. The Manager is also required to handle customer service opportunities. This position reports to the Campus Copy Fax & Pack General Manager.

It is the goal of all Campus Copy Fax & Pack employees to make the center a pleasant, professional, stress free location for the University community to make their copies and ship their packages. It is also the goal of all employees to ensure that the center accurately collect all monies for the services it offers to ensure that Campus Copy Fax & Pack can operate on the University of Florida campus.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Manager’s duties and tasks include but are not limited to:
• Ability to perform all responsibilities of the Campus Copy Fax & Pack Associate
• seeing that the front counter runs smoothly
• patrolling the area at various times picking up trash, returning equipment to the proper place, and fixing equipment as needed
• delegate jobs to Associates as necessary
• interviewing, hiring, training, and scheduling of the Associates. It is very important that competent people are hired for these positions and it will be the responsibility of the Manger to ensure that the center is staffed with people who are invested in the value of customer service
• discipline the Associates as needed and bring any employee problems to the attention of the General Manager
• communicate with Associates on new procedures, promotions, and concerns of the General Manager
• letting the General Manager know when equipment and merchandise needs to be ordered to ensure the center operates smoothly
• inventory items for retail sale and supplies monthly, and notify the General Manager of items needed to be ordered as needed
• Upon receipt of all orders, the Manger will verify the order and complete all necessary paperwork to pay vendors.

Graduate Assistant - Gator Nights/TRiP

The Graduate Assistant is a paraprofessional staff member and will work directly with student organizations through the advisement and support of the Travel and Recreation Program (TRiP) and Gator Nights. The Travel and Recreation Program is a volunteer, student-run organization that plans and facilitates adventure and leisure based trips for affiliates of the University of Florida and the Gainesville community. TRiP hopes to share enthusiasm for the outdoors while promoting knowledge of the region, skill in the activity, group interaction, and personal growth. Gator Nights is the leading late night program in the Southeast and occurs every Friday night during the Fall, Spring, and Summer B semesters. The program offers FREE first-run movies, bands, comedians, improv shows, arts and crafts, novelties, interactive games, cultural events, interactive lectures, dances, DJs, artists, video game tournaments, popcorn and soda, and midnight breakfast. General Description
This position is responsible for assisting guests at the J. Wayne Reitz Union (JWRU). The JWRU is a multi-purpose facility with over 350,000 gross square feet of public space, including two ballrooms, two auditoriums, 30 meeting rooms, a food court, game room, information desk, welcome center, office spaces, and a hotel with 36 guest rooms. As the “community center” for the University of Florida, the JWRU provides information, programs, services and facilities to enhance the campus life experience for students and others in the University community. Student Assistants should bring any problems that develop to the attention of the Student Manager or Operations Manager. In the absence of a student or operations manager, productions assistants report directly to the night and weekend manager on duty.

Essential Functions
• Provide accurate information to customers at both the Information and Welcome Center desks
• Answer and transfer phone calls to the appropriate department
• Answer and direct guests with walk-up questions
• Redirect in-house service requests to the appropriate department (Productions, Housekeeping, AV Services etc) via two-way radio

IT Services

IT Assistant

This position focuses on providing technical support to the staff at the Reitz Union. Typical activities include setting up and troubleshooting hardware & software used at the Reitz Union as well as answering user questions. Previous experience with Microsoft operating systems, Microsoft Office, and computer hardware is preferable. This job provides an excellent opportunity for students to get hands-on experience with many types of computer technology and also to develop their customer service skills.

Web Graphics Assistant

(GRAPICS position with very little PROGRAMMING) This position requires experience with Photoshop and Illustrator, along with familiarity with hand coding HTML, CSS, and Flash work. Act as Ambassador for the Reitz Union during all Union programs. Review all room arrangements to be sure all equipment and set-ups are correct before each meeting or event. Secure building by locking/unlocking doors and access areas as required. Check to make sure no unauthorized persons are inside facility during closing hours. Advise Director and other supervisory personnel of situations and circumstances that may affect operating policies and procedures by posting either in "Night Report" or e-mail to appropriate personnel. This would include, but not limited to, disciplinary problems, maintenance, housekeeping, or operations issues. Responsible for all building staff during shift. After training period, be aware of specifications of life safety systems, fire alarm procedures, violence protocol, campus alcohol and drug policies, specific policies concerning the union grounds and hotel occupancy specifications. Be effective communicator with a diverse population and varied educational levels in a tactful manner. Must be able to make decisions/resolve problems under pressure. The first position will be from Friday morning reporting midnight - 8 a.m. and Saturday midnight - 8 a.m. The second position will be Saturday and Sunday mornings - 8am-4pm. It is possibly other shifts may be available and vary according to department and building needs This position is required to work holidays, weekends, and 4:30 p.m. - midnight, as needed, so shifts change often. This will also depend on student's availability schedule. This position requires a physical and background check.

The Graduate Assistant in the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Affairs is a paraprofessional staff member in a comprehensive department that provides developmental advisement to students through the strategic initiatives of scholarship, service, leadership, community, risk management, and facility maintenance. Gator Nights! Student Assistant

This position helps with the management of the late night program, Gator Nights!, that is held in the Reitz Union and Southwest Recreation Center every Friday night during the Fall, Spring, and Summer B semesters. Duties consist of working at the Reitz Union Friday's evenings until 2:00 am during scheduled Gator Nights! doing the following tasks: concession stand & food bar staffing, game room monitoring, and other various duties as assigned. Must have good interpersonal skills; able to follow oral instructions; be flexible and able to work independently.

10-12 hours a week at starting pay rate of $6.67/hour

Graduate Assistant

The Graduate Assistant is a paraprofessional staff member and will work directly with student organizations as well as advise the Reitz Union Board (RUB) and Orange & Brew programs. RUB is the Union�s student-run program board consisting of multiple committees staffed by over 150 student volunteers who select, plan, coordinate, and promote a variety of cultural, social, and educational events for the University of Florida community. The Orange and Brew program plans events in a restaurant style facility Monday through Wednesday nights. This involves the selecting, planning, and management of weekly events. The Graduate Assistant will advise various student organizations on the different aspects of programming and event management. The time commitment for this position is 20 hours per week, with additional time required during peak periods such as the beginning and end of each semester. Print Graphic Artist

Print Graphic Intern

This position focuses on providing print graphics support to the staff and student organizations at the Reitz Union and Office of Student Activities. Candidates must be enrolled In the University of Florida's College of Fine Arts and completed the following courses: ART 1803C and ART 2220C. Must be Macintosh proficient with knowledge of PhotoShop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, and Quark. Strong communication skills, both visual and verbal, are required. A conceptual thinker who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment on a diverse group of student activity projects. Portfolio must show an exceptional design sense, especially in the areas of typography, layout, and information design. Design aesthetic must be versatile in execution, and reflect a sophisticated understanding of style as it relates to content and a high degree of visual organization. This job provides an excellent opportunity for students to get hands-on experience with print graphic design and computer technology and also to develop customer service skills.

Student Assistant

Students work primarily in the Office of Student Activities, but may provide office coverage in the Student Activities Center. Students answer phones, direct calls, conduct computer work, filing, faxing, greeting visitors, scheduling appointments for staff, copying, special projects as assigned by OSA staff. The Office of Student Activities is open from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday - Friday with extended hours on Wednesdays until 7:00 pm.

Productions Assistant

General Description
This position is responsible for setting up and assisting with various conferences and special events at the J. Wayne Reitz Union (JWRU). • Separate all damaged equipment and conduct minor maintenance repairs
• Assist with transport and redistribution of office furniture/equipment
• Assist with removal of recyclable paper products
• Assist with staff coverage for the Information Desk and the Welcome Center
• Attend regularly scheduled training and scheduling meetings
• Other tasks as assigned

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications
• Current University of Florida student in good standing with a 2.0+ GPA

Front Desk Assistant

Front Desk Assistants work during the day with the Manager or Student Manager. Their primary duties include checking in and out hotel guests, posting phone and occasional room charges, taking reservations over the phone and providing information to visitors to the Reitz Union/ University of Florida.

Currently looking for someone to work days - Specifically MWF from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Also, some weekend hours and TTH hours may be available.

Night Auditor

Responsible for the operation of the hotel desk during the late night/early morning hours (11 p.m. to 7 a.m.).
Duties include checking in/out guests, answering switchboard, taking reservations, programming wake-up calls, posting room and phone charges to guest's folio, preparing reports for manager and business office and other duties as assigned by the hotel's manager or assistant manager.

Salary - $7.70/hour

Weekend Manager

Weekend Managers, in additional to the duties of the Front Desk Assistants, handle the operation of the hotel desk in the absence of the Manager and Assistant Manager. They are expected to be able to solve problems that may occur in order to appease our guests while still operating within the guidelines set by the Hotel's procedures.

I will be hiring someone for the rest of the Summer and Fall Semesters - we don't close for the break between semesters. I am looking for Friday and Saturdays from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. and possibly 4 hours on Sunday.
