J. Wayne Reitz Union
Educating Leaders for a Global Community
The Travel and Recreation Program is a volunteer, student run organization that
is part of the Center for Student Activites and
Involvement and the Reitz Union. Our mission is to plan and lead adventure
and leisure based trips for affiliates of the University of Florida and the community
of Gainesville. We hope to share our enthusiasm for the outdoors while promoting
knowledge of the region, skill in the activity, group interaction and personal growth.
Whether you are an individual, a group, experienced or just beginning, we have a TRiP designed for you. Throughout each semester we have 20-30 planned trips that are typically within the southeast but extends across the country and around the world, that range from a half day to three days in duration. We hope that you will come TRiP with us!
Nov. 13th - 15th
Take some time to adventure to North Carolina and backpack with us in beautiful Linville Gorge!
Nov. 13th - 15th
Come hike along the Appalachian Trail to see the always-pleasant Blood Mountain and Slaughter Gap! We will also hike to Lake Winfield-Scott for swimming and sunning!
Want to go Skiing or Snowboarding this winter season? This winter, TRiP has two amazing trips lined up. Over winter break we will be going to West Virginia and during spring break to Winter Park, Colorado for some world class slopes. Sign up now, spots may run out. Check out TRiP's schedule page for more information!
Fall registration is now open, please sign up for TRiPs at the Outfitter on the ground floor of the Reitz Union. TRiPs are first come, first serve so sign up as soon as possible because TRiPs fill up fast.
Our activities include: backpacking, canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, mountain biking, whitewater rafting, snorkeling, surfing, snow skiing, water sports and horseback riding. During winter and spring break we offer longer, overseas expedition and ski trips. As your university travel provider, we also offer discounted rates on local amusement parks.
TRiPs accommodate all skill levels, but are geared primarily toward people who are looking to learn or gain more experience. All trips are physically demanding, some more than others, and require individual contribution to the group. Most overnight trips involve camping either in primitive or established campsites. Additionally, trips are primarily outdoors, so participants are subject to the weather and terrain of the region and must plan accordingly. All trips assume a basic level of fitness, however, if a trip is specified as intermediate or advanced skill level, a higher level of experience and health are required. Please ask an Outfitter or TRiP Staff if you have further questions.
Virtually all the equipment you will need for your trip is included in the cost of the trip. All group equipment including tents, cooking utensils, food, transportation, entrance fees and guide fees is covered in the registration cost. Individual participants need to bring their clothes, eating utensils, a sleeping bag and personal items. Most gear is available for purchase or rental at the Outfitter connected to the TRiP office. Go to the participant checklist for a comprehensive list items you need.
TRiP outings are for everyone but particularly people eager for adventure and willing to learn new skills and meet new people.
