Come hike along the Appalachian Trail to see the always-pleasant Blood Mountain and Slaughter Gap! We will also hike to Lake Winfield-Scott for swimming and sunning!
Spend a weekend backpacking in the Chattahoochee National Forest and scaling several magnificent heights. Our highest peak will be Blood Mountain, with an elevation of 4458 ft, where we will catch a magnificent sunrise and/or sunset (your choice!). We will also follow the evergreen covered trail to Lake Winfield-Scott where we can and relax in the sun and swim if we are brave enough to jump in a mountain lake in November. Over the weekend we will see Northern Georgia's brilliant fall colors and diverse wildlife!
We will leave Gainesville early Friday morning and drive to Vogel State Park, stopping at some look-outs along the way. From Vogel State Park we will hike to the top of Blood Mountain and camp there overnight. We will spend Saturday swimming in Lake Winfield-Scott and hiking to Slaughter Gap. On Sunday we will trek back to Vogel State Park and drive back to Gainesville, making it back late Sunday evening.
